LEGO®-based therapy is a form of a collaborative play-based intervention that uses Lego® bricks as a medium to facilitate communication, social interaction, and emotional development. By engaging in structured play with LEGO®, clients can explore their thoughts and feelings, improve their social skills, problem-solving skills and enhance their cognitive abilities.

What is LEGO®-based counselling

  • Any child looking for new ways to express themselves: The creative aspect of building with Legos can help all children articulate their thoughts and feelings.

  • Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): It helps improve social skills, communication, and imaginative play.

  • Children with anxiety or social skills challenges: The structured play provides a safe space for children to express themselves and build confidence.

  • Individuals with developmental delays: It fosters fine motor skills, problem-solving abilities, and creativity through hands-on engagement.

Who can benefit from LEGO®-based counselling

Individuals :

In one-on-one Lego-based counselling sessions I use play and hands-on building to help clients explore thoughts, feelings and relationships in a safe, non-judgmental space. Sessions are tailored to each client’s needs, pace and goals, with the materials and interventions adapted to support emotional expression, problem-solving and personal growth. LEGO-based counselling is more complex than “sitting and building LEGO”. From a counsellor’s point of view, what happens in sessions is not just structured play — it’s a careful, evidence-informed process that supports a child’s emotional development, learning and relationships in ways that are often invisible to an observer.

Groups:

Lego-based therapy fosters teamwork and cooperative problem-solving by giving group members shared building goals that require communication, role-taking, and turn-taking. It also promotes positive social interaction through structured play that reinforces encouragement, patience, and collaborative decision-making.
